As you have probably noticed this site has in the last week or so had a bit of a change with a new theme and a different layout. This has been in response to some of you requesting more of a internet marketing side to the site, which I am happy to do.

I believe that we all evolve and change from year to year whether this is in business or in our own personal life. In the last 6 weeks I have made significant changes myself. At Christmas time if you had said that I would be working with 2 of the most respected marketers on line within the next couple of months I would not have believed you.

But here I am 2 months later doing some work for Kevin Potts and Paul Lynch from the Cambridge Business Academy It is through working fro them that I have been exposed to some fantastic training and new products. I have also learned that if you are not careful when setting up your google add it can easily end up on pornographic sites as well as sites that may show graphic violence. That’s why I was so glad to be exposed to the Google Optimizer.

The reason I mention these is that we are all in danger of becoming stuck in our ways and when you are in business that can be a one way to failure. This is even more likely in internet marketing as everything can change so quickly.

Well the new year has rolled in and here in the UK it has been heralded in with snow and freezing temperatures. Most of the UK has had some snow and here on the South East Coast we have missed the worst of it but we still had about 5 -6 inches within 8 hours.

It is surprising how quickly things can all seem to fall apart. Here they had run out of grit for the roads and there are talks that we are getting low on gas supplies for heating. Just goes to show that you can not plan for everything

Well the new year is fast approaching and I do not know about you but I get excited when I start to think of what the new year has install for me. I have to admit 2009 has been terrbile year for me and my family on a personal level and I am praying that 2010 holds a better year for us.

Business wise 2009 has been fairly good, as this is the first year that I have now started to run my online business amd I am starting to see the rewards. Which brings me to something that may be of interest to you.

One of the things you need to decide if you want to become an internet marketer is what market you will want to get involved with. There are many marketers who will tell you that in a short time you can become an expert in any topic with the help of the internet, and that is perfectly true.

The big difference is that being an expert on something and actually enjoying writing and promoting something are two completely different things. I would advise anyone that is looking to get into internet marketing to choose a subject or market that they have a strong interest in.

I would consider myself fairly experienced in the insurance market as I used to work in a call centre selling all types of insurance to people. Would I enjoy promoting insurance all day every day? No way. Ask me about my interest in photography though and I could talk all day and night about it.

So my first rule is find something you really enjoy promoting, you will soon become an expert in it, and you will love every moment of it. Once you have made that decision you then need to find what part of that market will be your niche.

Let’s say you are interested in health and fitness, that’s a large and profitable market, but it is not narrowed down enough. So let’s assume that your interest is in running or jogging. That is still too big a market to be termed a niche. To take this down further let’s say that you enjoy the training aspect of being ready for a race, and let us assume that you enjoy training for half marathons.

The training aspect of half marathons would be what is termed as a niche. So you can see that we started off with a large market of health and fitness and burrowed down deeper until we came to training for half marathons. The next step would be to find a product that we would be willing to promote.

One of the first things that anyone needs to do if they want to be an internet marketer is decide what they are going to market. No one regardless of how successful they are online can make that decision for you.

There are marketers that are able to market anything, but most of us, including myself can only stay excited or interested in a product that we believe in. You also, in my view need to have an interest in the area that you are selling in.

So if you wanted to get into the health market you need to have an interest in health in some way or another. If you are into muscle building or dance fitness then this is the area you may want to consider becoming an internet marketer in.

There is a very simple way to find which market to dive into. You need to write down a list of say 5 things that you are very good at. This can be anything from running to making cakes. Then write down a list of things you are passionate about. You may have a hobby or a pastime that you are really keen on, such as fishing or gardening.

Then you need to write down what skills you have. These may be personal or professional skills. When you have done your lists you will find that this has started to get the ideas flowing. Look for anything on the list that really jumps out at you as being something that you are really interested in.

On the other hand you may already know what area you want to market in. This is where the most important part of the process really begins. You need to look at that markets and burrow down deeper into it until you find a niche you are interested in.

With the bad weather we have been having here on the south east coast of England has really announced the start of the long winter months. Rather than think of this as a bleak time I tend to think about the coming year ahead and what changes it will bring.

With this in mind I have been receiving requests by your selves to introduce articles and newsletters explaining how to get started with internet marketing. I must admit I have tried to stay away from this, as a lot of the ways to make money online work in different ways for different people. There is no fast and hard rule on how to make money on the internet.

Also it is very time consuming to pre test programs and software before recommending to people that they should get it or use it. As anyone that is already signed up for my newsletters knows, I only promote products, services or software that I have used myself.

What I am willing to do though, is to help people get started. What I will be doing is to explain the basics of how to begin in internet marketing. What I will be sharing with you is techniques that have been shown to work for myself and others.

The first thing you need to do is ask yourself truthfully if internet marketing or working online is for you.

Do you have self discipline?
Do you have good time management skills?
Do you enjoy working alone and sorting out your own problems?
Do you enjoy learning new skills?
Are you ready to work for months on end without seeing any profit?

If you can answer yes to all these questions them maybe, just maybe, internet marketing is for you.

Can anyone make money online? Yes, but it will be a case of you not giving up, even when you think you cannot do it. One thing I can promise you though, is that you are about to start on a steep learning curve.

Yes Christmas is almost upon us which means even more pressure on our over burdened purse strings. Like many of you this is the time of year when I would like to earn some extra money to help pay for the holiday period.

Earning money for Christmas is not that hard when you put your mind to it. We all know that many businesses start to have their Christmas staff parties around this time of year. So there are going to be a lot of parents out there desperate to find a babysitter.

Start by telling others that you are willing to do some babysitting, ask friends and neighbours. Place an advert in the local shop or store. Not only will you be able to earn some money for Christmas, but this may lead to more bookings for you in the coming year.

Not keen on babysitting? why not try your hand at making home made Christmas cards. The materials you will need are easily accessible and as long as you are fairly good at cutting out then you can offer personalised hand made cards to friends and neighbours.

Again get some adverts out there, place them in local shops, or print up some fliers on your computer and ask if you can place a few where people gather, Hair salons, cafes, just ask the owner if you can leave some leaflets. Don’t just put them in places without permission as they may end up in the trash bin.

Many families all get together at Christmas time so if you know of any friends or neighbours that are going away for a few days, why not offer your services to watch over their home for them. You could offer to water their plants, feed any pets, or offer to switch some lights on for them at night so the property looks occupied.

You will earn some much needed extra cash and they will have peace of mind whilst they are away.

Live the dream work from home is something that many of us aspire to but it may not be as easy as you may have first thought. So how do you go about bringing that dream into reality?

First you have to ask yourself how you could work from home.  Maybe your present job is something you could do from home via the internet without you having to lose your main source of income.

Secondly you need to be really truthful and ask yourself if you have the self disciplin to make sure you do work whilst you are at home. There are far more distractions at home than at the office.

It is very easy to convince yourself that you will do the work later on in the day rather than doing it straight away. If you do have an accommodating employer that allows you to work from home all well and good, but if you don’t what then?

Well do you have skills you can use to work for yourself as  self employed. It may not be working from home but working fro yourself is far better than working for someone else.

The downside of being self employed is that you only earn money when there is someone employing your skills from you. You also have to become a book keeper, an advertising specialist and your own secretary.

The last option is one that many people are turning too, the internet. Can you build an internet business and work from home. Well yes you can but there are some real truths you have to be aware of.

Running an internet business is like any other business it takes hard work and long hours before you start to make any money from it. You will probably not earn enough to pay the mortgage, the bills and support your family for many months.

If on the other hand you have just been made redundant, unemployed or you have retired then building an internet business may well be the answer. Some people do get rich from internet businesses, but there are many more people making substantial monthly incomes from the internet.

It Is worth doing if you think you can do it, but as mentioned before it takes hard work and long hours and sometimes many months before you will see any returns for your efforts.
